Untamed Cat Food Review: My Honest Experience With My 18-Year-Old Cat

Why choose untamed cat food? I have been a professional feline behaviourist for near to 20 years now and, as part of my investigations into any behaviour issues, was the feeding habits and nutrition of the cats concerned. It is from this foundation that I was thrilled to be approached by Untamed to give an honest appraisal of their products as part of a sponsored blog post. They didn’t know that, as part of my own senior’s cats health and wellbeing, I had switched to Untamed a while back and my cat  loved it. When D day arrived tit was like xmas day to my cat, who was eager to munch her way through the various flavours on offer, from chicken breast, wild tuna with salmon, shrimp topped tuna, chicken breast with smoked tuna in broth, chicken breast with red tuna in broth, chicken breast with beef, to ocean fresh fish.

One of the biggest changes I noticed when switching my cats to Untamed was that their runny poos stopped almost overnight. With cheaper supermarket brands, I could almost guarantee that my cats’ stools would be loose, runny and rather smelly. I can only speak from my own personal experience, but Untamed really did seem to solve this issue, something the whole household was extremely grateful for. The reason I suspect Untamed suited my cats’ stomachs better than many cheaper supermarket brands is the quality and simplicity of the ingredients. Untamed uses real meat and fish rather than vague meat derivatives, and its recipes are made without grains, added sugars or unnecessary fillers. Cats are obligate carnivores, so their digestive systems are designed to process animal-based protein and fat far more efficiently than plant-heavy ingredients. For my cats, moving to a food based around proper meat and fish seemed to make a noticeable difference very quickly.

I also think the lack of added sugar, grains and artificial extras may have helped. Some supermarket foods can contain ingredients that bulk out the meal but do not offer much nutritional value for a carnivore. While I can only speak from my own experience, my cats’ stools became firmer and far less smelly after switching to Untamed, which suggested to me that their bodies were digesting the food more comfortably.

Runny poos can be unpleasant for any cat, but they are especially difficult for long-haired cats, where a messy litter tray visit can quickly become a grooming issue too. And, of course, it is not much fun for the humans in the house either, particularly those of us with noses sensitive to pungent litter tray offerings. For me, this was one of the most noticeable and welcome differences.

As my cat has just celebrated her 18th birthday, I am thrilled that we have found Untamed. My husband and I are very much looking forward to celebrating many more birthdays with her, and it is comforting to feel that she is enjoying food that suits her at this stage of her life. From the quality of the ingredients to the improvement I noticed in her digestion, Untamed has been a very positive experience in our household. Every cat is an individual, of course, but for us, it has been a welcome change,  and one my little senior cat has accepted with great enthusiasm.
